It’s Tuesday, and you know what that means? Tuesdays are for Teaching Artists! Meet Kevin Smith (he/him), who is a returning Music Director teaching artist at TADA! Youth Theater.
Originally from Omaha, Nebraska, Kevin now resides in NYC.
Get to know Kevin a little better with this fun Q&A!
TADA!’s mission is important to me because this is a program that gives EACH student the skills they need to become a musical theater wizard! I love that TADA! focuses on ensemble building, playwriting, singing, dancing & acting.
I believe that arts education is essential now because it teaches us about humanity and how to treat our neighbor. When learning about characters, the students are taught to empathize and think on a broader scale than just self. When learning to sing and act, their voice is empowered. By dancing they learn how to show joy. All of these are things that we need more of right now.
My favorite part about teaching, during the virtual period that we are working in, is when material is taught to students and they take the initiative to make it their own tailored artistic expression. Because of ZOOM, we lose out on the immediate auditory or visual response, but when it comes to recording or sharing the students always SHOW UP!
You Will Be Found from Dear Evan Hansen
Schroeder from The Peanuts, because I’m always at the piano!!!
