It’s Tuesday, and you know what that means? Tuesdays are for Teaching Artists! Meet Mariela Dorado (she/her/ella), a Music Director teaching artist with TADA! Youth Theater.
Originally from Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Mariela now resides in Jersey City, NJ.
Get to know Mariela a little better with this fun Q&A!
I love that TADA is constantly working to make high quality Musical Theater programming more accessible.
Beyond serving as an escape, Art can be a powerful vehicle to inspiring change. Arts Education is essential, especially now, because it equips the next generation with the tools they’ll need to confidently and unapologetically express themselves.
I’ve had a few really amazing and influential teachers/mentors that believed in me, pushed me, and shaped me into who I am today. Not just as an artist, but as a person. My favorite part about teaching is hopefully getting to be that for someone else.
“Waiting for Life to Begin” from Disney’s Tangled! Because I’m spending most of my time indoors and am finding lots of different ways to keep busy whenever I’m not teaching!
I’d like to think I’m most like Moana, she’s my favorite. We’re both island girls who feel called by the ocean, love our families very much, and have big ambitions.
